IGF-1 LR3
Insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1) is a substance produced using recombinant DNA technology and is the primary mediator of the growth-promoting effects of human growth hormone. Because of this role, IGF-1 can stimulate the growth of bone, muscle, and internal organs. Its impact on skeletal muscle is notably hyperplastic, meaning it can increase the number of muscle cells, not just their size.
Unlike human growth hormone, IGF-1 has strong insulin-like activity. It supports growth by increasing the uptake of amino acids, glucose, and fatty acids into cells. At the same time, it lowers blood glucose levels very efficiently, which means excessive amounts can lead to severe hypoglycemia. Beyond this, IGF-1 promotes several anabolic processes in the body, including increased protein synthesis, improved nitrogen retention, and the formation of additional muscle fibers, provided sufficient amino acids are available.
IGF-1 has also been shown to support connective tissue health by improving collagen production and aiding cartilage regeneration in joints. In addition, because IGF-1 receptors are present in brain tissue, the hormone appears to have neuroprotective properties. Research suggests it may help slow the progression of certain neurological conditions and reduce age-related decline in brain function in some older individuals. Para Pharma Ohio
